The local cluster

Home directories and email are available on all machines. For Mac users, mail can be accessed either through Mail.app in the Applications folder, or by logging into theory via ssh and running a terminal mail client such as pine.

Most network services (password authentication, mail, home directories for linux machines) are run by the central server, theory

theory.uchicago.edu (128.135.152.73)
        NIS Master Server
        Home Directories
        Mail Server
        Web server

Remember, however, that you don't need to actually log into this machine to use the network services.

Macintosh Users: Mac users are being migrated to the Physical Sciences Division server, psdds2. Those Mac users whose machines have been transferred to the PSD cluster should not keep updating files on theory, as these will not be synchronized with their office Mac. For the moment, mail services for all users will continue to be run via theory. Make sure (if you are a Mac user that has been transferred to the PSD cluster) that if you download a mail attachment that it ends up on the PSD cluster rather than on theory!
